Life In Bangkok

Jul-29-2008 By shoppingmum

I don’t have time to explore Bangkok like a tourist, most of the activities we did are pretty common, like those local Thai people. I like it when I can learn more about Thai culture, and my kids are exposed to different types of environment as well. We have long term plan to stay in Bangkok, so our kids have to grow up like Thai people.

We did bring them around but I only blogged about the trips on my kids blog. Maybe I’ve lost my touch of updating all my blogs in different niche, so I didn’t blog about them here. Besides that, I’m quite tied up with the exhibition of our products and air tools this week, so blogging will be left aside first.

Maybe I will have more time to travel by the end of the year. I still haven’t been to Chiang Mai!

By Sea

Jul-23-2008 By shoppingmum

All our boxes have arrived and it took more than a month for all the 8 boxes to arrive in Bangkok by sea. We sent out the boxes within 2 weeks, but they were separated and shipped out at different shipment. I would suggest anyone who’s sending their stuffs abroad to do it by sea as it’s much cheaper than moving pods by air. It might take more time to get your stuffs, but if you are not in a hurry, why pay more?

So, my wardrobe is almost full now, but I won’t stop shopping!

I Miss The Beaches

Jul-23-2008 By shoppingmum

A nice swimsuit is a must for a beach vacation. I’m dying for a holiday by the beach now as I’ve been working so hard for more than a month. I can still shop very often lately, but I miss the fresh sea breeze and sunbathing on sandy beaches. So, I just can’t wait for a beach vacation soon!!!

So, where should I go if I can afford to leave my work? Pattaya? Koh Samoi? Phuket? Argh!!! If only I can leave the office and head to the beaches now!

South Africa

Jul-23-2008 By shoppingmum

I haven’t been to South Africa, but hubby went there once on a business trip. He was quite busy on the trip, so he didn’t have a chance to experience the South Africa Adventures at all. If we have a chance to visit South Africa one day, I would surely want to go for a safari tour. It might be a costly trip, but if we can’t save up on the day tours, I will try my best to look for affordable South Africa Accommodation.

Maybe we can just stay in one of the towns like Knysna and book a cheaper option of Knysna Accommodation. It seems like a peaceful and nice place for a family vacation. But if we can afford it, staying at Cuningham’s Island Guest House will be a better choice. I like staying by the beach and furthermore, we can enjoy a round of golf or nature walk at the nature trails. My kids will be thrilled if they can try out horse riding too!

So, we better work harder for a nice vacation like this!

Ayutthaya Tomorrow

Jul-12-2008 By shoppingmum

My kids went to Ayutthaya for elephant ride before, but we might do it again tomorrow to refresh their memory about this wonderful experience. There are some temples nearby, so we might visit and pray at one of those temples too. Maybe I will get some closer shots of the historical landmarks. I didn’t do so for my previous trips to Ayutthaya, so hopefully I will be able to snap more photos tomorrow.

Let’s see what can I post here on my travel blog about Ayutthaya.

It’s pretty common for expats and tourist to use the Thailand and Cambodia border for visa run. We did our first run yesterday and it was such a horrible experience! I don’t mean that the process of “renewing” the visa is bad, but the condition of Poipet, Cambodia is beyond my imagination. I know that it’s a poor country, but it was worse than I have in mind.

So, if you are going there for visa run, please forget about your Delsey luggage but go with backpacks or empty handed. Just bring along your important documents, that’s all. Furthermore, try to reach there early as you really don’t want to be caught staying in Poipet when it’s dark!

The entrance to Cambodia

Besides that, this place is totally dirty. The people are walking around bare footed and they looked like they haven’t bathed for some time. I’m not looking down at them, but if you are not feeling well, forget re-stamping at this border. You really don’t want to get more ill after this trip.

That muddy road, gosh, I won’t walk without my shoes!

BTW, if someone is approaching you to get your visa done, just bear in mind that you might have to pay for their service but do bargain with them. Most foreigner are paying about 1000 bahts, but we paid 300 bahts for each. Furthermore, we paid another 100 bahts for the officer to fill up the forms and get over to the departure office of Cambodia, which had a long queue of angmohs trying to get theirs done. If money can settle the hassle of queuing up with our kids on the muddy road and under the hot sun, we are more than willing to pay!

If you are wondering what can you find at the border, there are casinos. Too bad we are not interested in gambling and furthermore, what I had in mind is getting out from there ASAP.

Casino and resort

At the Thailand side, there is an open market selling cheap stuffs. I bought a replica here, but frankly, I just got it for fun. You can really forget about buying things here. If you want to shop, go to Bangkok city. Why are you wasting time driving 4 hours here to get some cheap stuffs?

Dreaming of Krabi

That’s the kind of chair I would like to sit on now instead of my office chair. I’m longing for a beach vacation even more after reading the special AirAsia promotion of flying to Krabi for only RM3. That’s very cheap! I don’t mind bring my kids along since they like the beach as well. But in order to keep them occupied without disturbing me from having a nice massage, I might need to pack along the children’s book and toys.

Let’s see when can we squeeze some time out for a nice vacation. Gee…I really miss the beach.

My Thai Sucks

Jul-7-2008 By shoppingmum

I still can’t speak Thai. My hubby is more serious in learning than I do, and even my boy has started to grab the best headphones we have at home to listen to the CD. I’m so left out when it comes to learning Thai.

I wonder how long will I take to have a decent conversation to the local people? I still can’t speak anything, even if I know some words and terms. I better speed up my learning process, if not I’m doomed here in Bangkok.

Slim Down Before Vacation

Jul-5-2008 By shoppingmum

The last time I put on a pair of bikini was about one year ago, and I think I looked fitter then. I haven’t been exercising for more than a month, so I’m totally flabby! I will be going to the beach soon so I better stay slimming down for that bikini look. LOL!

I hate to be on diet. Furthermore, I am cooking now and I hate to see the food being wasted. That’s why I eat more in Bangkok as comparing to the days I stayed in Ipoh. Without yoga and belly dancing, I’m totally doomed.

So, if you are trying to slim down before a vacation, just like I do, try these tips from Hotel and Resort Insider.

Chew gum when you are cooking: While cooking if you are chewing gum you are neutralizing mindless eating. Whenever you get ready to cook don’t forget to take the gum into your mouth so that you always realize what you are doing at that present moment.

Always drink water: Water is quite essential for your body to gear up your metabolism. Calorie-free beverages such as water, herbal, black tea or coffee should be the major constituents of your summer body diet plan. In fact these are one of the best ways to keep your body fit and healthy. Just remember not to take tea or coffee more than two times a day.

Have plenty of raisins: Raisins are best to burn down all your fats in the body. They are considered to be the cheapest workout snack which you can always go for. It’s far better than the expensive gels and drinks. You can even take the help of salads, hot cereals and granola by adding the raisins to them. Don’t forget to plump the raisins for about fifteen minutes before using them in baked goods.

Munch on fiber the whole day: If you want to prevent yourself from overeating, you can fetch fiber, and munch them all throughout the day. Fiber will help you to keep your appetite full for long hours. It will be great for you if you can have the fiber in place of bread, pasta, or rice.

Dance while dressing up: If you allow your body to shake and move from its normal routine, you will feel fine and fit. If you can just give a childish dance while you dress, your calories will fall down a lot.

Don’t leave your plate clean: If you are a foodie, you will not like to waste even a small bit of your food on the plate. Well, this is fine but not always. This small change in your food habit can prevent you from over-eating. So you must eat 75% of the food that is served to you. It helps you to reduce the calorie content.

Avoid the second cocktail: When you consume alcohol you are not able to burn enough calories. So after having the first cocktail, don’t try to go for the second one. Instead go for a glass of cold water so that it can gear up your metabolism.

Consume more fats: Monounsaturated fats will help you to reduce your weight and will protect you from chronic disease. If you take any one of the categories that includes oils, nuts, seeds, avocado, chocolate and olives, then you can easily reduce your belly from being enlarged, and take your calorie well.

Quit the gym classes: Now, the gym makes your body solid. That’s perfectly fine. But not so fine because gym will create in you an endless urge for hunger which can further lead to overeating. You can easily go for home exercises that are much easier for you. There are many activities through which you can always gear up your energy level and burn down all your calories.

Eat your potatoes: Potatoes are considered by many people to be a fat producing substance. But the concept is actually a wrong one. Cooked or chilled potatoes are full of starch that will help you to reduce a lot of your weight. A potato is rich in nutrients and is a low calorie side dish.

Gosh, I almost signed up a gym membership, if I didn’t read this early enough. So bye bye treadmills, I hate bulky calves!

Midyear Sales in Bangkok

Jul-5-2008 By shoppingmum

I’ve been shopping like crazy for the past 3 days, but mostly at Future Park, which is the nearest from my office. It’s so convenient to spend a few hours there, after office hour. LOL!

I bought a lot and most of the major brands have discount more than 30%. Too bad I don’t have the membership yet, if not I would get more discount. So, if you are coming to Bangkok, don’t miss the sales. I think it will last for another week, if I’m not mistaken. Don’t just get those lousy souvenirs or personalized pens on your way home at the airport. Get something nice for your love ones too.
