Traffic Jam Again

Dec-31-2008 By shoppingmum

We were caught in a bad traffic from Suvarnabhumi Airport to our home. The taxi driver said that the traffic has been pretty bad due to the 5 days holiday here in Thailand. In fact, the bus station is the worst area and you might need 4 hours just to get off the highway exit to the entrance of the bus station! I think you will arrive there faster if you walk!

The train station was pretty packed as well, but luckily it was not that crowded on Boxing Day, when we left to Chiangmai. We took the train, and I will blog about it next time. It’s such a pleasant experience for my kids, and surprisingly, it changed my perception on long hours train ride. Can really save up on flight tickets and travel insurance quote, if you travel by train.

Again, please wait for my photos!

Back and Off

Dec-31-2008 By shoppingmum

I went to a few places lately, but too bad I haven’t got time to blog about all of them yet. My updates about Baan Krut beach is not completed yet, and now I’m back from Chiangmai! There are a lot of backlogs and tonnes of photos in my sd flash memory queuing up for this blog, and hopefully I will have more time in the coming weeks. We should be rather busy next week, after our vacation ends.

We are leaving again tomorrow and this time we are going to a horse riding resort. My kids love horses, and I think it’s a great opportunity for them to spend some time at this horse club resort.

So, stay tune for more updates soon.

Ban Krut Beach

Dec-23-2008 By shoppingmum

There are a lot of nice beaches in Thailand, and it’s going to take us a lot of trips if we want to explore every part of it. We went to Ban Krut beach last weekend, and it’s great! This beach looks under developed, as comparing to Hua Hin or Pattaya, but then, that’s the kind of holiday destination I prefer. It has a white and clean sandy beach, which stretches as far as 12 kilometers, so you will really love this beach which is not crowded at all. The waves are strong too, and I’m not sure if we came here by the end of the year as it’s very windy throughout the trip.

If these are bed frames, I can lie on the beach all day long…

There are a few resorts along this beach, and most of them are fairly affordable. You can easily find restaurants and cafes here, even if the choices might be limited. Nonetheless, bear in mind that this beach is not very commercialized yet. We used the bikes to go around in this beach village, and it doesn’t have a lot of traffic, so it’s quite safe for cycling, even for kids.

I will update more about this trip later, especially about the resort we stayed in and a few tourist spots near Ban Krut beach.

Back from the Beach

Dec-22-2008 By shoppingmum

I went to Baan Krut, which is a beach in southern west of Thailand. It’s a nice beach but it’s not populated as comparing to other beaches like Hua Hin and Cha Am. This beach is fairly new, and maybe not many people know about it.

I have snapped a lot of nice photos, and there are about 500 of them in my computer memory! If I added all those photos from other cameras, I will have thousands of photos on this trip! It’s a group trip, so a few of us brought along our cameras.

Let me sort out the photos first, then I will write something about Baan Krut soon.

Koh Kred, An Island in Chao Phraya River

Dec-16-2008 By shoppingmum

We went for a day trip to Koh Kred last Sunday, and it’s an island in Chao Phraya River. There is no bridge to this island, and the only way to go there is by boat.

This island is very famous for its pottery, so if you are interested, go for a tour. The boat tour is very affordable, but don’t expect any safety measurements or a luxurious boat ride. It’s very local, and I should say…remote?

Hopping over to the boat, at your own risk. LOL!

There are a lot of wats here, but we were more interested in going for a tour around the island. Some of the villagers have pretty floating houses.

But if you are looking for something special, this island doesn’t have much to offer, especially something like las vegas suites. It’s more like seeing in your own eyes how most Thai people lead their lives in the villager.

Nonetheless, I enjoy the river view.

I passed by Don Mueang Airport yesterday and this place is more quiet than usual, especially after the seize. I think some part of the buildings are not being used now, and furthermore, there were a few bombing cases here during the seize.

Don Mueang Airport

This morning, I dropped BIL off at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and it’s not as crowded as the airport I know.

The steel buildings looks gigantically deserted because most stranded tourists are gone by now, and not many are willing to travel to Bangkok.

Lesser planes at Suvarnabhumi Aiport this morning

I really hope that the Thai nation can win the confidence from worldwide again, but before that, let’s pray that this country will have a better and more stable political scene in the future.

Pretty Sunflower Field in Muak Lek

Dec-9-2008 By shoppingmum

I’ve been waiting to see the sunflowers in Muak Lek since I’ve heard so much about it. The place has a few sunflower fields, belong to different land owners. If you think the first sunflower field is not pretty enough, drive around and it’s not hard to find another pretty sunflower field.

It’s best to come here during winter in Thailand, which means by December to January, when the weather is cool and windy. You will take you about 2 hours if you drive from Bangkok city, and Muak Lek is situated in Saraburi Province. It’s pretty hard to miss these sunflower fields as there are so many of them staying under the sun!

Besides sunflowers, you can go for ATV too, but I didn’t try it out. Maybe next time.

We were on our way to Korat last Friday and we passed by a nice spot with hot air balloons flying up to the sky. Little that we knew, it was actually Thailand International Balloon Festival 2008 which was held in Khao Yai. We were lucky to get a glimpse of it!

My kids were so excited to see the balloons in the sky, as well as some getting off. The place was packed and the traffic was pretty bad. But nonetheless, those balloons made our long hour journey less boring and cheered us up a lot.

Honeymoon No More

Dec-3-2008 By shoppingmum

There won’t be a trip for hubby and I this year. We will bring the kids along to 3 short trips in Thailand, and it’s all family vacation but not honeymoon. Actually, I don’t mind about anywhere we go, even if hubby suggested Outer Banks rentals, it still sounds ok to me. But we don’t have anyone to help us with the kids here, so I can surely forget about honeymoon for as long as I know.

Sigh…But I should be complaining huh? I still have 3 holiday trips awaiting for me.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Siege Ends

Dec-3-2008 By shoppingmum

I’m glad that the seize is over at Suvarnabhumi Airport. I guess my holiday plan can be carried out!!! However, the airport will only resume its normal operation on 15th, or earlier, after inspections of damages to the airport systems and facilities. I guess the airport is in a mess right now.

I wonder if some flight passengers parked their cars at the airport before the seize? We used to do that in Malaysia when we went for traveling. Most of the time, it’s quite safe to leave the cars at the airport and but no need to use car covers, it’s too obvious. After 8 days, if the cars are not started at all, can the cars be started smoothly now? LOL!
